Major League FieldThere was a work day on Dec 21, 2001 at the Major League Field. All existing backstop fencing was removed in preparation for the new backstop installation. Thanks to those who helped:
On Jan 5, 2002 the existing backstop poles were sanded and treated with rust-stop in preparation for painting. The following people worked very hard in the cold weather to get this done in time for the welder to add extra support poles:
On Mar 6, 2002 the following people hung the first new batting cage at the Major League Field:
Valparaiso FieldSod was laid on Sep 28, 2001 to fill in the holes in the infield. Thanks to those who helped:
On Oct 13, 2001 additional sod was laid and the field was top-dressed and rolled. Thanks to those who helped:
On Oct 28, 2001 a workday was held at the Valparaiso field to work on the dugouts, bullpens and overseed/fertilize the field. Thanks to those who helped to make this a very productive workday:
In the first week of November, Gary Wood single-handedly built two excellent pitching mounds in the Valparaiso bullpens and finished the dugout work. Who said retired Colonels don't know how to get their hands dirty! A few souls braved the cold and sleet on Mar 3, 2002 to top-dress the field, build a new pitcher's mound, cut the sod around the bases, and add clay:
A MAJOR workday was held on Mar 9, 2002 to install new bases, paint foul lines, install new sprinkler heads, work on the pitcher's mound, fix the batting cage, and add clay around the bases. Thanks to all who worked:
Twin OaksIn August, 2001 the Twin Oaks concession stand was emptied and cleaned and the bathrooms were given a thorough cleaning before turning them over to PAL Soccer. This work was done by:
